George was determined he was going to be a swimming coach, and that he was definitely NOT called to be a pastor. In this talk we go back to his early swimming days (the day we recorded this podcast, he woke up at 4am in order to swim 6,000 yards).

Then we discuss the early days at the University of Houston, his introduction to Campus Crusade, and how he met Karen…

George and Karen got married, went to seminary, and George worked three jobs to support his new family. On the weekends he cleaned floors, during the weeknights he was a janitor, and during the weekdays he had his favorite job- at the bookstore.

That third one provided him with an opportunity for “double reading,” as he calls it. Whereas some of his profs at seminary were teaching questionable theology, the time he was given to read and reflect helped grow deep roots.
